The Denver Police Department asked Jacom Stephens and Dieter Spears to create an image library for the department's various marketing, recruitment, and public awareness campaigns that will be rolling out over the coming years. They wanted us to capture the essence of what it is like to be a police officer… the heroism, skill, honor, integrity, loyalty, etc. and portray their officers in a polished, professional light.
They also needed accurate depictions of their training and day-to-day operations for all the various aspects of law enforcement in the Denver metropolitan area. That included the K9 bomb sniffing dogs and bicycle patrols at the Denver International Airport, their Air One support helicopter, the brand new state-of-the-art Crime Scene Investigation lab and mobile unit, their cadet training Academy, the gang unit, firearms training and certification at their modern indoor facility, equestrian mounted patrol, etc.
The scope of this shoot was quite broad with 19 different locations, over 115 different people photographed, and dozens of scenarios/topics covered over the nine days of shooting. Although the long hours and full schedule were very demanding, we had a great time working with Denver's finest and learning more about how law enforcement works.
